Molly Brown - Actor of the Month for August 2024

1) Has there been a Casting Director that has encouraged and/or supported you in your career?
Maribeth Fox, hands down. From the moment I met her she made me feel advocated for, she gave me great advice and she’s an all around fantastic person.
2) What work are you most proud of?
Besides the series I created, Boy Shorts, the work I’m proudest of is when I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of shows I was already a fan of, like High Maintenance, Maisel and now Dexter. I love those shows and getting to be in those universes feels really special.
3) What or who inspired you to pursue acting as a career?
I don’t know if I would have had the confidence to pursue acting if it hadn’t been for the theatre camp I attended in high school. I was surrounded by adults (I would later find out they were all about 22) telling me I could really do this.
4) What was your first IMDbPro credit and how did you feel when you saw it?
The first short film I did when I moved to New York and it was surreal. All I ever wanted was to be an actor in New York and this was proof I really was an actor in New York!!
5) How has IMDbPro helped you market yourself to filmmakers?
I’ve gotten a couple jobs because filmmakers have seen that I don’t just act, I also write and I’ve directed and produced and when someone is looking for a larger collaborative partnership that really helps.
6) Any funny casting room stories?
The best casting story I have is that I was getting coaching from a CD. I had previously auditioned for a feature but she was helping me with a different role. She told me she messed up my slate and we had to do it again. She said “what’s your full name,” I said “Molly Brown,” “what’s your height?” I said 5’3” and she said “you just booked your first movie.” I said “no I didn’t.” I was so excited and it was such a special moment to share with her.
7) Tell us a fun fact about you outside of acting:
I compete in Settlers of Catan tournaments and a major goal of mine is to represent the United States at the World Championship.
