Published on January 23, 2026

Laura Adler, former Casting Society Administrator and Casting Director died on January 22, 2026, in Los Angeles following a brief illness. She was 65.

Born and raised in New York City, Adler was the daughter of the late actor and director Jerry Adler. She is survived by her sisters Alisa Adler, a talent agent at Paradigm; Emily Adler, a writer; Amy Adler; and her beloved nephew, Joe Adler.

Over more than four decades in entertainment, Adler built a career defined by service, integrity, and tireless advocacy. She began working in television and film production in 1980 before transitioning into casting in 1989, assisting renowned casting directors Barbara Claman, Mark Saks and Ted Hann. She later rose to become an associate and then a casting director herself, a role she held for more than 16 years. Her casting credits include the television series “Better off Ted,” “Dream On,” “The Goode Family” and “American Dreams” for which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Casting in a Drama Series.

In 2005, Adler became an original member of the Teamsters Union Steering Committee that fought to secure long-overdue pension and health benefits for casting professionals—an achievement that permanently reshaped the industry and underscored her deep commitment to her colleagues. In 2014, she was hired as Casting Society’s Administrator, a position in which she would spend the next decade serving and supporting the global casting community with dedication and compassion. She retired from the role in 2024, leaving behind an organization strengthened by her steady guidance and care.

In recognition of her lasting impact, Adler was recently announced as a recipient of the Rosalie Joseph Humanitarian Award, to be presented at the upcoming 41st Annual Artios Awards on February 26 in Los Angeles. The award is given for outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes that have in turn supported the casting community, a distinction that reflected Adler’s life’s work.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
