Actor of the Week

Casting Director members of the Casting Society of America are experts in spotting and evaluating exceptional talent in actors, and we think we should be at the forefront of introducing these actors to our fellow members and to the entertainment industry at large.

An actor featured as an Actor of the Week below is an actor whose work and character a CSA member is very familiar with. An actor who we might tell our friends about; about whom we might say, “She is going to be a star someday,” or “He is just on the verge,” or “I can’t believe she’s not on a series yet,” or “He nails it every single time he comes in for me, regardless of the role.” We are not highlighting an actor that everyone knows; we aren’t looking to “introduce” Nicole Kidman, for example. Nor are we highlighting an actor who might be starting out, someone that we might suggest “taking a chance on.” We are introducing an actor who we would recommend to any of our peers, without hesitation.

For the time being, actors profiled have been selected through nominations from current and recent-past National Board members. Once the feature is up and running, there will be a link included on this Actor of the Week page, which will allow all Casting Director members to download a form and nominate actors they think should be considered. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns about Actor of the Week, please email PublicityandSocialMedia@castingsociety.com.

Margaret Bowman

Margaret Bowman

Nominated by Jo Edna Boldin: I met Margaret over 20 years ago when I cast her as Matthew McConaughey’s mother in an Unsolved Mysteries episode. He was strictly a theatre actor back then, and a very well trained one from Carnegie Mellon. Because there were a lot of blockbuster studio films shooting in Prague at the time, he began his film career there and I...

Brigitte Kali Canales

Nominated by Jessica Sherman: I was teaching a course that Brigitte was attending and something about her stood out to me. As soon as I saw her read, I knew I had to see more! About a month later I started working on a film that she was very right for. She came for me and wowed me and then later stunned the filmmakers. While we didn’t...

One of that golf foursome was telling me all about his grandson who was studying at NYU and looking to move to LA once he graduated. When that grandson got to LA we had brun...
